Session 24

No Return...The Cycles of Rationalization

Knowing and Accepting the Unknown

At the heart of Gate 24 lies a profound paradox: the relentless pursuit of knowing juxtaposed with the quest for silence. The individual mind, ever oscillating between past and future, seeks refuge in the tranquil oasis of silence, where clarity and insight await. Yet, this journey towards silence is not without its trials and tribulations.

Line by line, Gate 24 unfolds its intricate narrative, each line offering a unique perspective on the journey of knowing:

1. The Sin of Omission: Foundation. Here, transformation demands retrospection, a reassessment of past thinking before a rational concept can take root. The first step towards true knowing lies in acknowledging our fallibility, in humbly accepting that our understanding is but a fleeting glimpse of a larger truth.

2. Recognition: Projection without introspection. The allure of new ideas beckons, yet without introspection, we risk mistaking borrowed melodies for original compositions. True recognition stems not from vanity but from a genuine embrace of the spontaneous creative impulse.

3. The Addict: Bondage and liberation. The third line grapples with the intoxicating allure of regressive forms, the relentless cycle of seeking and abandoning inspiration. Here, the struggle lies not in knowing but in discerning which truths are worth the pursuit.

4. The Hermit: Solitude and introspection. Isolation becomes a crucible for renewal, a sanctuary where the individual mind can unfurl its wings and soar unfettered by external influence. In solitude, the seeds of innovation take root, nourished by the fertile soil of introspection.

5. Confession: Admission and absolution. The courage to confess our mistakes paves the way for new beginnings, for the practical value of starting anew. Confession is not a sign of weakness but of strength, a testament to our capacity for growth and evolution.

6. The Gift Horse: Deafness to opportunity. The final line heralds the transition toward the next stage of evolution, where mutation beckons on the horizon. Within the clamor of life's myriad possibilities, we risk becoming deaf to the whispers of opportunity, our focus distorted by irrational suspicion.

“To know what you can know, to know what you can know but what is not important for you to know, and to know what is
unknowable. If you cannot distinguish between those three you will never find silence in your mind because that is the one thing the individual mind is looking for: silence. In the same way that the abstract mind does not want any bad, old movies anymore. The individual mind would just like to have silence, quiet in there.” - Ra Uru Hu

This week we explore ways to silence the chaos and noise in our minds, to learn to accept the uncertain, and create space for innovation to take off.

“Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment I know this is the only moment.” - Thich Nhat Hanh

This quote like Gate 24, teaches us to embrace the present moment fully, recognizing that it is the only moment we truly have. By surrendering to the silence of the present moment, we release the grip of past regrets and future anxieties, allowing ourselves to fully experience the richness of life as it unfolds in front of us.
