Session 10 Lesson

A REVOLUTION REQUIRES A TRIBE

The Rebirth of Freedom.

"Every man dies, not every man really lives," uttered William Wallace, the indomitable Scottish warrior from the epic movie Braveheart. His fervent quest for freedom mirrors the ethos of Gate 49, the Gate of Principles, renowned for its revolutionary fervor and steadfast adherence to what's just. Yet, even Wallace, with all his valor, couldn't have triumphed without the unwavering support of his tribe. Here's where the journey of Gate 49 converges with the significance of community in navigating transformation while upholding your principles.

Adaptation is often the key to progress in the journey of self-discovery and personal growth. But what happens when this adaptation requires letting go of deeply ingrained practices, relationships, or principles? How do we navigate the murky waters of change, and what role does community support play in this process? In this article, we delve into the profound concept of adaptation through letting go, guided by the transformative energy of Gate 49: Revolution, also known as the Gate of Principles.

Adaptation Through Letting Go

As we embark on the path of self-improvement, it's crucial to recognize when certain aspects of our lives are no longer serving our greater good. Whether it's outdated practices, toxic relationships, or rigid principles, sometimes we need to release these burdens to make room for growth. The process of letting go can be daunting, but it's essential for embracing change and aligning ourselves with our true purpose. Our bonus in this journey is the support of community. Together, we form a tribe of like-minded individuals, providing encouragement and understanding as we navigate through potentially emotional and challenging experiences.

Just as Wallace held fast to his convictions, we each harbor principles that steer our lives. They serve as compasses, guiding our choices, shaping our relationships, and influencing our lifestyle habits. But as we evolve, so must our principles. Clinging to antiquated ideologies is akin to wielding a corroded sword—it may have served its purpose once, but now it impedes progress.

Gate 49 imparts sage counsel: adaptation is paramount. Shedding and rejecting practices, associations, or principles that no longer serve you isn't a betrayal; it's a revolution toward personal growth. Picture Wallace, shackled by outdated battle strategies against the evolving English forces. Adaptation and relinquishment were imperative for his survival, both as a leader and a warrior.

However, letting go can evoke trepidation. This is where tribal support becomes indispensable. Wallace had his army, his brethren, rallying behind him, sharing his burdens, and offering fresh perspectives. Likewise, finding your tribe—a fellowship of kindred spirits—becomes your shield in the quest for self-improvement. They lend ears to your struggles, raise toasts to your triumphs, and remind you that your journey isn't solitary.

Gate 49 underscores that principles shouldn't be immutable decrees from an ivory tower; they ought to be fluid. Just as Wallace adapted his strategies in response to the adversary's maneuvers, your principles must evolve alongside your experiences. Your tribe serves as the looking glass, reflecting the pragmatic implications of your principles on yourself and your community. Do they truly serve your greater good? Do they align with the exigencies of your collective?

Like Wallace confronting English opposition, you may encounter dissent when advocating new principles. Yet, herein lies the sensitivity aspect of Gate 49. Resist becoming the despotic ruler, imposing your agenda unilaterally. Listen to your tribe, comprehend their apprehensions, and craft solutions that benefit all.

As you embark on your personal "Braveheart" odyssey, keep in mind:

  1. Principles are guideposts, not straitjackets. Don't fear releasing what's obsolete.
  2. Find your tribe. Their camaraderie is indispensable in navigating change and making astute decisions.
  3. Remain adaptable. Tailor your principles to accommodate your experiences and your community's needs.
  4. Lead with empathy. Revolution needn't be violent, but it must be principled and compassionate.

Embrace the spirit of Gate 49, discard antiquated baggage, and draw strength from your tribe. As Wallace defied the English oppressors, his legend spread like wildfire, rallying hundreds of Scots from neighboring clans to his cause. Leading his army, Wallace achieved a decisive victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge, a testament to the power of principles in action.

Like William Wallace, your pursuit of self-betterment can inspire others and foster positive change—one principle, one discourse, one act of solidarity at a time.

The Inspiration For This Lesson

“The potential to explore every possibility before rejecting” - Rave I'ching

“In the moment of rejection, rejection leads to revolution and the establishment of a new principle”

There is no revolution unless there is support. This is tribal.

"Along with the 49th Gift comes an enormous longing to reform the ineffective ways in which society operates. […] The 49th Gift does not produce the kind of revolution that history has so often seen — it gives birth to revolutionaries, not to reactionaries. This urge to improve the world is anchored in a deep understanding of the world. […] However, while this Gift seeks to throw out the old ways, it also understands that certain aspects of the past must be kept intact and nurtured to fulfilment.”—Richard Rudd

PICK & CHOOSE

Activities

Section Shape Image

The activities this week are to support you in life.

Pick and choose whichever activities interest you.

Identify an outdated principle: Reflect on personal habits, beliefs, or relationships that no longer align with your values.

Choose one to "cut through" and experiment with letting go. This could be something small, like a limiting belief, or bigger, like changing a daily routine.

Journaling: Dedicate a week to journaling about your chosen principle. Explore why you hold it, its impact on your life, and potential drawbacks. Write down alternative principles that could serve you better.

Visualization: Imagine yourself embodying the new principle. How does it feel? Visualize yourself successfully navigating any challenges associated with this change.

  1. Incorporate mindfulness techniques and self-reflection activities into the practice of handling rejection.

  2. Observe your thoughts and emotions when faced with rejection without judgment. This can help develop emotional resilience and you learn to respond more calmly and rationally to rejection over time.

  1. Conduct an inventory of practices, people, and principles.

  2. Identify elements no longer serving your growth.

  3. Are you convicted in living a life of freedom from bonds that no longer serve you?

  1. Develop daily affirmations that support your courage to follow your heart.

  2. Repeat these affirmations regularly to integrate into your subconscious.

  1. Commit to at least 5 minutes of actual writing time.

  2. Dedicate a week to journaling about your chosen principle. Explore why you hold it, its impact on your life, and potential drawbacks.

  3. Journal about the emotions and thoughts that arise as you write about this principle.

  4. Write down alternative principles that could serve you better.

  5. Is this an area to upgrade in your life?

  6. Share and discuss insights and challenges with your core peeps.

  1. Download the Wealth Wheel Activity

  2. Individually assess 10 Key Resource areas using the Wealth Wheel.

  3. Identify areas where you lie to yourself and shift your mindset and actions to align with your truth.
