ENDINGS THAT LEAD TO BEGINNINGS
Embracing Growth
Navigating Life's Cycles with Walter Mitty's Daydreams and Eat Pray Love's Soul-Searching
Ever feel stuck in a rut? Like your life's on repeat, playing the same old song? Ready for a change? Not sure what to do? Well, we're about to bring awareness to the energy of completion and growth with the help of Human Design's Gate 42 and two epic films: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Eat Pray Love.
Life is a journey marked by cycles of endings and beginnings, where we must finish what has been started to make space for something new. These movies beautifully illustrate this profound aspect of human experience, guiding us through the transformative journey of self-discovery and growth.
Gate 42, also known as the Gate of Increase, is all about leveling up by, well, completing things. It's like finishing that last bite of pizza (because who wants leftover cold pizza, right?), and then, of course, you're ready for a scoop of ice cream (because growth also involves celebrating and treating yourself, obviously).
The more days I live, the more I recognize how growth thrives on completion. By embracing endings, letting go of expectations, and staying open to new experiences, we unlock our full potential and pave the way for a more fulfilling life.
Understanding the Core Essence
Experiential Focus: Gate 42 emphasizes the importance of experiences. It signifies the journey of moving through various experiences to learn and evolve.
Diversification & Growth: This gate encourages us to diversify our experiences, not get stuck in repetitive patterns. Growth comes from venturing beyond the familiar.
Completion & Letting Go: Completing experiences is crucial for Gate 42. It allows us to free up energy and pave the way for new beginnings. Holding onto endings hinders growth.
The importance of detachment and surrender to outcomes
As we journey through life, we must learn to let go of rigid expectations and embrace the flow of change with trust and acceptance. Just as the characters in these movies learn to detach from their preconceived notions and surrender to the unknown, we can find peace and fulfillment by releasing the need for control and embracing the beauty of life's uncertainties.
This energy brings with it the polarity between grasping and flakiness, both of which stem from expectations. Whether we cling to the past out of fear of change or constantly seek new experiences without allowing cycles to complete, we hinder our growth and perpetuate negative patterns. Instead, by cultivating detachment and surrender, we can break free from these limitations and live life with a sense of freedom and authenticity.
Ultimately, Gate 42 invites us to embrace the cycles of life, including endings, as opportunities for new beginnings. Death, in its metaphorical sense, represents the end of one phase and the birth of another, symbolizing the perpetual cycle of renewal and growth. By understanding and integrating the wisdom of Gate 42 into our relationships, work, and lives, we can navigate life's transitions with courage, grace, and an unwavering trust in the journey.
The Power of Endings
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty: This film beautifully portrays the importance of embracing new experiences and venturing outside one's comfort zone.
Walter Mitty might be the king of daydreams, but this movie is actually about stepping outside your comfort zone and experiencing life to the fullest. Stuck in a cubicle with a boss who could rival a grumpy troll, Walter gets a chance to chase an adventure that takes him from the safety of his desk to the breathtaking landscapes of Iceland. Walter encounters challenges, embraces diversity, and learns to let go of his fears, ultimately discovering his true potential and finding fulfillment in the process. His journey mirrors the cycle of endings and beginnings as he sheds his old self and embraces the new possibilities that life has to offer. Each new challenge he overcomes is like completing a level in the game of life, unlocking a new sense of confidence and possibility. I loved watching his character develop into someone trusted life and saw the world full of opportunity.
Eat Pray Love: This journey of self-discovery involves letting go of a stagnant existence and embracing new experiences that lead to growth.
Eat Pray Love takes us on a different kind of adventure – a solo journey of self-discovery for Liz Gilbert. After realizing she was stuck and in an apathetic state with a feeling of being "lost," she divorces her husband and embarks on a quest to find herself. Through her journey, Elizabeth confronts her past, learns to let go of expectations, and opens herself up to new beginnings. Each destination – Italy (all the yummies!), India (pray!), and Indonesia (love!) – represents an ending of sorts and a different stage of her growth – letting go of the past, releasing old beliefs, and freeing herself from societal pressures. By letting go of the past and embracing new experiences, Liz is able to complete a cycle and discover a more fulfilled version of herself. It is through these endings that Elizabeth creates space for growth and transformation, ultimately finding inner peace and fulfillment.
So, how can you harness the power of Gate 42 in your own life? Here are some tips:
Finish what you start: We've all got that lingering to-do list. This week, tackle a project you've been putting off. Completing it will be like that post-pizza satisfaction, freeing up space for something new and exciting.
Don't be afraid to daydream (like Walter): Let your mind wander! Sometimes the best ideas come from those "what if?" moments. Just remember, after the daydream, take action and turn those dreams into reality.
Embrace change: Life is full of twists and turns. Don't cling to the way things "used to be." See change as an opportunity to grow and learn.
Celebrate milestones (big or small): Acknowledge your achievements, no matter how seemingly insignificant. Every step forward counts!
Growth isn't always sunshine and rainbows.
Sometimes it involves letting go of things that no longer serve you.
Journeying through the cycle of endings and beginnings is a deeply personal yet universally relatable experience. It requires courage, resilience, and a willingness to embrace the unknown. Just as Walter and Elizabeth discover, letting go of the familiar can be daunting, but it is often necessary to make room for new opportunities and experiences. It is in these moments of transition that we have the opportunity to reflect, learn, and grow, ultimately leading us closer to our true selves.
As we navigate the twists and turns of life's journey, it is important to remember that endings are not failures, but rather opportunities for growth and renewal. By embracing the cycles of life, we can free ourselves from the constraints of the past and open ourselves up to the endless possibilities that lie ahead.
Every ending promises a new beginning, and by embracing the cyclical nature of life, like finishing a delicious woodfired pizza and then moving on to dessert, you unlock your full potential and pave the way for a more fulfilling and adventurous journey. Get ready to embrace your next chapter!
Living the Journey This Week:
This week's focus on Gate 42, the energy of increase through completion, can manifest in various ways across different aspects of your life. Here's how it might play out:
1. Family Life:
Letting Go of Family Drama: Resolve past conflicts and foster a more harmonious family environment. Initiating open communication and practicing forgiveness can be key.
Creating New Traditions: Look for opportunities to create new traditions with your family. This could involve starting a weekly game night or taking a family trip together.
Letting Go of Unrealistic Expectations: Sometimes, family dynamics require letting go of unrealistic expectations for ourselves and others. Focus on appreciating your family members for who they are and fostering unconditional love.
Trial and Error: Embrace the concept of trial and error in your life experiences. Understand that mistakes are a natural part of the learning process and can lead to valuable insights and personal growth.
Self-actualization: Focus on your own inner growth and self-fulfillment. Be true to yourself and pursue experiences that align with your values and aspirations, even if they differ from societal expectations.
2. Relationships:
Letting Go of Negativity: Gate 42 encourages releasing unhealthy attachments and resolving conflicts. This could be a time to have open and honest conversations with loved ones to clear misunderstandings.
Celebrating Milestones: Acknowledge and celebrate special moments in your relationships, whether it's an anniversary, a birthday, or simply a shared accomplishment.
Embracing Transitions: If a relationship feels stagnant or has run its course, this week might nudge you to consider ending it gracefully. Remember, endings can pave the way for new and fulfilling connections.
Nurturing: Cultivate a nurturing environment within your relationships. Support your partner or loved ones in their personal growth journeys while also prioritizing your own self-care and well-being. (One of the suckest things to experience is being judged and held back when you are upgrading yourself.)
3. Work:
Project Completion: You might feel a strong urge to tie up loose ends and finalize projects. This could lead to increased focus and productivity.
Embracing New Challenges: This is a great time to volunteer for new tasks or take on additional responsibilities. Be open to learning new skills and expanding your role.
Letting Go of Stagnation: If you've felt stuck in a rut, this week's energy can help you break free. Consider initiating constructive conversations with your supervisor about career progression or exploring new opportunities within the company.
Diversification: Embrace diversity in your work experiences. Avoid repeating the same tasks or projects; instead, seek out new challenges and opportunities for growth.
4. Career:
Taking Initiative: You might feel inspired to take charge and pursue career goals more actively. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and network with potential collaborators or mentors.
Completing Training or Education: If you've been enrolled in a course or training program, this is a good time to dedicate yourself to finishing it and reaping the rewards.
Career Transitions: If you've been considering a career shift, this week's energy might propel you forward in making that change. Research options, update your resume, and start making connections in your desired field.
Identification: Recognize new trends and experiences that can contribute to your professional development. Be open to projecting your energy into new endeavors, even if you're uncertain about your abilities.
How we each experience the themes of Gate 42 is very dependent on our unique designs.
By being mindful and open to change and completion, you can leverage this powerful energy to create positive shifts in all areas of your life.
The Inspiration For This Lesson
"The expansion of the resources which maximizes the development of full potential." - Ra Uru Hu
"Detachment isn’t lacking feelings it is freedom from an attached outcome. “Despite how the word may sound, to be detached does not mean to not feel. In fact, if you are truly detached, you will feel more intensely than others because you will not have allowed your expectation, positive or negative, to constrict the event you actually experience. With detachment, you can even enjoy the experience of being disappointed!” - Richard Rudd
"Somewhere inside us, we are all waiting for our lives to improve — for a great day somewhere in the future when finally all will be exactly as we dream it can be. Somehow we will receive all the money we need, our love lives will be perfect and we will have absolute freedom to do all the things we have always wanted to do. But not now — first we have a few things to clear up before we can be truly happy. And so we go on, postponing and postponing… until we are old, and then of course it’s almost too late.” - Richard Rudd
